Associate Professor or Assistant Professor in Medical Oncology

FACULTY MEMBER IN MEDICAL ONCOLOGY

The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University invites applications for up to two full-time medical oncology faculty positions at the associate professor or assistant professor level in the Harrington Oncology Service. The Harrington Oncology Program at the Cummings School has a robust clinical caseload, excellent student teaching, and house officer training programs. The successful candidate will join an existing team of three medical oncologists who are Diplomates of the ACVIM (Medical Oncology), and one board certified radiation oncologist (Diplomate of the ACVR) in the Foster Small Animal Hospital.  An established Clinical Trials Office coordinates ongoing active investigations and evaluations of new therapies, medical devices, and diagnostic tests. Additional features of the Foster Small Animal Hospital include VECCS Level 1 emergency service, 1.5T MRI, helical multi-slice CT, fully equipped nuclear medicine suite, C-arm fluoroscopy, portable radiography, laparoscopy/arthroscopy, interventional radiology suite, and Varian linear accelerator with cone beam CT, a multi-leaf collimator and stereotactic radiotherapy.

The successful candidate must have a strong interest in cancer research and is expected to establish an extramurally funded research program that complements our existing clinical research program. Current research strengths include comparative cancer genomics, cardio-oncology, clinical trials, and diagnostic and therapeutic innovations.

The successful applicant will be responsible for directing, instructing, and supervising veterinary students, house officers and technicians; providing health care and service to patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients; and recruiting patients for enrollment in ongoing Oncology clinical trials.

Qualifications: Must hold a DVM or equivalent degree.  Completion of a residency program in companion animal medical oncology approved by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine by the effective date of appointment is required. Board certification is required at, or no later than two-years following, the date of hire. Demonstrated research excellence and potential to establish an externally funded, independent or collaborative research program is required. A PhD in a relevant field is considered an asset. Demonstrated interest and aptitude in teaching is required. The rank and appointment track will be dependent on experience, interests, and qualifications of the candidate.
