Instructor-Practice Position in Small Animal Internal Medicine

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time one-year Instructor in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service, and clinical teaching. Specialty board certification or eligibility for board certification (ACVIM or ECVIM) is required. The candidate will join the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences which is comprised of six faculty, seven residents, one intern, four technicians and one client service liaison. The Small Animal Medicine service is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center Hospital for Companion Animals, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including diagnostic imaging (3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT) and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment necessary to perform procedures suitable to an advanced internal medicine referral service.  Our goal of this position is to build upon current success, and to augment and advance the clinical teaching component of the Internal Medicine Service.

The successful candidate will be assigned up to 80% time in clinics, focused primarily on clinical teaching of veterinary students and advanced training of interns and residents. Scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Clinical responsibilities include patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. It is expected that this person would work within the internal medicine service in collaboration with other internal medicine faculty to foster and enhance the educational experience and the evaluation and feedback of 4th year professional students within the internal medicine rotation. The candidate is expected to foster a broad and diverse caseload through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients, exceptional referral and consultation service to private practitioners, and the provision of comprehensive and excellent patient care. It is expected that the faculty member will actively participate in clinical teaching of 4th year professional students, interns, and residents. The faculty member will participate in administrative service within the internal medicine section.

Qualifications:

  • Specialty board certification or eligibility for board certification (ACVIM or ECVIM) is required.
  • Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service, and clinical teaching.
  • Candidates should have excellent communication skills and an ability to work cooperatively with other faculty and staff. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
