Assistant/Associate Professor

We are seeking an outstanding Veterinary Clinical Pathologist (DVM/VMD degree or equivalent) for a fully funded, tenure-track faculty position. Board certification or eligibility for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP, Clinical Pathology) or European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ECVCP) is required. A PhD degree is preferred. Candidates are expected to develop a creative and productive research program. Translational and collaborative research in specialties aligned with clinical pathology, including, but not limited to, hematopathology, transfusion medicine, immunopathology / immunodiagnostics, infectious disease molecular diagnostics, point of care testing technologies, cytopathology, clinical chemistry, machine learning and/or biomarker development, is preferred. The School of Veterinary Medicine embraces the One Health concept and offers many opportunities for collaboration on projects that span animal, human and ecosystem health. Experience, enthusiasm and effectiveness in graduate and professional student education is desired. Clinical experience and competence in Clinical Pathology diagnostic service is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching: 1) participation in lectures, discussions, and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; 2) clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH); 3) participation in the resident training program of the VMTH; and 4) participation in the graduate academic programs (MS and PhD) of the campus. A demonstrated commitment to the training of veterinary or other biomedical scientists and innovative teaching methods is preferred.

Research: Development of a creative and productive research program in relevant fields of interest is a fundamental requirement of the position, including publication of results in high quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals. The successful applicant is expected to obtain funding and direct research programs that could involve professional students, residents and/or graduate students.

Clinical: The position includes a clinical commitment to the diagnostic service in the VMTH. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students, residents and visiting scholars; providing diagnostic service; and advising and consulting with clinicians and residents.

Service: The University of California has a system of shared governance. Active participation in committees, professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate outlets is required. The department has a faculty mentoring program in which participation is expected.

Faculty members in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis have opportunities to collaborate with research groups within the School of Medicine, the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, the Veterinary Center for Clinical Trials, the Center for Comparative Medicine, the One Health Institute, the Veterinary Institute for Regenerative Cures, the California National Primate Research Center, the Cancer Center, the Center for Equine Health and the Center for Companion Animal Health, among others. If the successful candidate has research interests that align with the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) and its mission-oriented research, the possibility of an appointment as an Agronomist in the AES will be explored at the time an offer is issued.
