Senior clinician habilitation track in Small Animal Internal Medicine

This 6 year non tenure position will be filled as of March 2022 or upon mutual agreement.

Applicants should be Diplomates of the European (ECVIM-CA) or the American (ACVIM) College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the specialty of small animal internal medicine or have completed a residency in this specialty. They should have at least basic knowledge of the German and French languages, and be willing to improve these language skills as needed to efficiently communicate with referring veterinarians and the owners of our patients.

The sucessful applicant will dedicate 50% of their time to clinical and teaching activities and 50% to research and personal development. During the clinical rotations, the successful applicant will lead the medicine service; teach residents, interns, and last year veterinary students; perform administrative work; and communicate with referring veterinarians. The formal teaching consists of classroom, small group work, and laboratory teaching. Participation in the after-hour backup system for internal medicine cases is expected.

The internal medicine specialty group consists of 4 board-certified internists, 3 residents, and 1-2 rotating interns and 2 specialty interns. We have the pleasure to work in a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, with a very good equipment for most medical procedures, including endoscopy (gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary) and hemodialysis. Other specialties include cardiology, surgery, emergency/critical care, neurology, dermatology, radiology, anesthesia, and ophthalmology, all supervised by board-certified specialists.

The University of Bern is one of the two sites of the Vetsuisse Faculty. We collaborate closely with our sister university (Zurich) in other complementary areas, such as oncology.
