Assistant or Associate Professor of Veterinary Oncology.  The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine has an immediate opening for either a tenure-track or a clinical-track faculty position in Veterinary Oncology. The candidate would join another, established board-certified faculty oncologist as part of our Oncology team. Qualifications include DVM (or equivalent veterinary degree) and residency training in Oncology.  Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Oncology is preferred, but individuals eligible for final certification examination will also be considered.  An advanced degree and experience in clinical research are desirable for the tenure-track position.  Teaching responsibilities involve didactic teaching and clinical training of professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students.  Service responsibilities involve clinical case management, rotating service-specific emergency call/back-up duty, and consultation with general practitioners in the hospital’s referral base.  Participation in the college’s continuing education and clinical research program is strongly encouraged, as is, for the tenure-track position, the development of specific area of clinical and research focus and expertise.  For the tenure-track position, external grant acquisition and supervision of postgraduate degree students is encouraged and supported, and initial start-up funding is available to support the development of research initiatives.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Benefits package includes paid vacation and medical leave, retirement (including a robust retirement matching program), health insurance, and consulting options.  Clinical resources available include a 3 Tesla MRI, a 64 slice CT unit, and a Varian iX linear accelerator for radiotherapy.  Radiation patients are managed by the MSU Oncology service with support and remote planning provided by two veterinary Radiation Oncologists at other institutions.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is located on the campus of Mississippi State University in scenic northeast Mississippi.  With an enrollment of over 22,000 students, MSU is the site of sporting events, social activities, and cultural events throughout the year.  The region provides easy access to outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, camping and biking.  Also, within a few hours drive, are the metropolitan areas of Jackson MS; Memphis TN; and Birmingham AL.  Nashville TN, Mississippi Gulf coast beaches, and New Orleans LA are also within easy driving distance for weekend trips.
