Faculty Position in Small Animal Medical Oncology

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical track faculty position in Small Animal Medical Oncology. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in scholarship, patient management, client service and clinical teaching. Specialty board certification (ACVIM or ECVIM) or board eligibility is required.  Candidates must have excellent communication skills and an ability to work cooperatively with other faculty and staff. 

Candidates will be assigned up to a 65% clinical commitment, including clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, yet clinical research, publications or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Additionally, active participation in the Blue Buffalo Veterinary Clinical Trials (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/cto) program is expected. Clinical responsibilities include patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. It is expected that this person would work within the integrated medical, surgical and radiation oncology program collaborating with faculty in each of these areas. The candidate is expected to foster a broad and diverse caseload through the delivery of efficient and effective service to clients, exceptional referral and consultation service to private practitioners, and the provision of comprehensive and excellent patient care. Teaching responsibilities include didactic teaching in core and elective courses, as appropriate, in the preclinical years in the professional curriculum and in resident graduate MS degree courses. It is expected that the faculty member will actively participate in clinical teaching of oncology and related topics to 4^th year professional students, interns, and residents. Faculty will oversee and mentor residents and students in the graduate MS degree program that incorporates both clinical training and comparative/translational research. Participation in continuing education events and outreach activities for the animal-owning public and private practitioners is expected. The faculty member will participate in administrative service within the Integrated Oncology Service and like all faculty, it is expected that the selected candidate become involved with committee service and curriculum development.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences supports a faculty of over 75 clinical specialists, educators, and investigators along with extensive training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The Integrated Oncology Service (https://vet.osu.edu/vmc/companion/our-services/integrated-oncology) is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center Hospital for Companion Animals (http://vet.osu.edu/vmc), with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including diagnostic imaging (3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT) and advanced stereotactic radiation therapy (Siemens Oncor linear accelerator with 160 leaf MLC). Our goal is to build upon current success, and to augment and advance the clinical, research and teaching components of the integrated oncology program. Medical Oncology has been identified as a Signature Program in the College of Veterinary Medicine and is an essential specialty within the Veterinary Medical Center. The Oncology Signature Program is comprised of multiple components including clinical specialties and expertise in medical, surgical and radiation oncology, collaborative basic and translational research efforts, and strategic partnerships with the OSU Medical Center, The James Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  The Integrated Oncology Service is comprised of eight faculty (three surgical oncologists, three medical oncologists and two radiation oncologists), two surgical oncology fellows, seven residents (five medical oncology residents, one rotating surgery resident and one radiation oncology resident), and one surgical oncology intern.
