We believe smaller can be better.  It has taken our time and a relentless passion for our people and our patients, along with a passion for doing the right thing to build our dream.  This is exactly what my business partner and I wanted when we started our practice in 2015.  By our fifth year, our vision was a reality. You probably know what I am talking about – the halls at Sunstone were filled with the sound of people laughing, helping each other, and singing to our patients.

Around this same time, COVID hit our little corner of the world. We had a quick all-staff meeting one morning about two weeks before the official lockdown.  Our staff was nervous, people were crying, most were scared, the news was all bad all the time.  There were only unknowns.  My business partner and I knew that we had to focus on what we could control. One, safety is our highest priority.  Two, we are committed to our team. At that meeting, we announced that there would be no wage reductions and no layoffs.  We were in this together and we would support our team, whatever it took. We made these decisions in less than a minute in an exam room just prior to our staff meeting.

This is the beauty of truly being a small practice; of being owned by an experienced Internist and a seasoned hospital administrator.  We knew that this was where the ‘rubber met the road’ for us.  Our decisions were made long before any government assistance or even any direction was announced or given.  Because we are small and privately owned, we were able to quickly prioritize. We typically deliberate over business decisions. The decision to support our team at the very beginning of COVID was easy.  It was the right thing to do, and that was all we needed to know.

This is obviously not a slick advertisement filled with polished words and phrases. It is an example of how we run our business and of the culture in our practice. We are the real thing.  We all happily come to work with smart people who are committed to each other and our patients.  Our clients, patients, and veterinary community love us, and we make a difference in their lives.

We do not work weekends, nights, or holidays.  We offer superb employee benefits. We are happy to have attracted experienced, knowledgeable, and kind support staff. Patient care and comfort is of the utmost importance to our team.

We are currently looking for an Internal Medicine Specialist to join our small group of board certified specialists in Portland, OR.  All specialists work with dedicated support teams.  Schedules are typically 4-day work weeks.  Our specialists create their own daily schedules based on their preferences for intake, appointments, and procedures.  Wages are competitive based on experience and credentials. We would love the opportunity to show you why we are so proud of what we have built.  Portland remains a vibrant, livable, and adored city.  Come visit us and see it for yourself.

Sunstone Veterinary Specialists is requiring all employees be vaccinated for COVID 19.
