Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Cardiology
The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, invites applications for a clinical (non-tenure) track, tenure track, or tenured faculty position in veterinary cardiology at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor. Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree, should have completed or be in the process of completing an approved residency of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and have board certification or be eligible for board certification. For all candidates, salary and entry rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and qualifications.

To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate or full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrable national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
The major responsibilities of this position will be to teach and provide service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, to teach pre-clinical didactic and laboratory courses in cardiology to veterinary students, to actively participate in the training of cardiology and non-cardiology house officers, and to develop a research program, which can be independent and/or collaborative with other faculty members. Proportionate assignments for each area are based on the interests of the candidate, faculty assignment, and the missions of the Cardiology program and the Department.
The successful candidate will join a cardiology service of two board-certified cardiologists, three cardiology residents, two experienced, full-time cardiology technicians, and one veterinary assistant. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. The cardiology service is well-equipped with a Philips iE33 cardiac ultrasound machine including transthoracic and transesophageal transducers, a Philips CX50 portable ultrasound machine, a Philips TC70 electrocardiograph, a GE/OEC 9900 fluoroscopy unit contained within a dedicated interventional catheterization suite well-equipped for both small and large animal transcatheter procedures, an EMKA hemodynamic monitoring system, a lithium dilution cardiac output monitor, Spacelabs Pathfinder Holter monitoring software for on-site study interpretation, and iRhythm technologies mobile cardiac telemetry monitoring. Additional on-site diagnostic imaging technologies include Siemens RS Somatom 64-slice CT scanner, Siemens Magnetom Skyra 3.0 Tesla MRI, digital radiography, ultrasound, and nuclear scintigraphy.
The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery consists of 47 faculty members, 51 clinical residents, 9 rotating interns, 7 specialty interns, and 3 administrative staff members. Shared laboratory space and technical support are provided within the Department, and there are 7 dedicated research technicians who assist in the research missions of the Department’s faculty. Other specialties within the Department include anesthesia, dermatology, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, medical and radiation oncology, ophthalmology, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, nutrition, radiology, and zoological medicine, as well as a community practice program. The Department participates in the college-wide M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Members of the Department also actively participate in highly successful collaborative efforts with faculty members from other departments within the college and other colleges on campus, including the College of Public Health, College of Engineering, and the Athens campus of the Medical College of Georgia. The Department has a strong track record for teaching, research, and clinical service.
