The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Veterinary Teaching Hospital invites applications for full-time, 12-month appointment in the Equine Medicine and Surgery section. We provide clinical service on a primary care and referral basis for equine and food/fiber animal owning clients. We also deliver core and elective courses across all four years of the professional curriculum, and deliver educational programs for clients and veterinarians locally, nationally and internationally.

Requirements: Candidates must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have completed a residency in large animal medicine, surgery, or critical care. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated interest in emergency large animal medicine and surgery and willingness to instruct students with varied experience. It is imperative that the successful candidate have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people in a team atmosphere. Preferred qualifications include specialty certification for ACVS/ECVS, ACVIM/ECVIM or ACVECCS.

Duties: This position is a 100% clinical appointment in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. The appointment will be full time and will be a non-tenured, academic position with a starting date on or about May 16, 2022. The primary responsibilities associated with this position will be to provide emergency coverage after-hours in the Large Animal Clinic for both equine and food/fiber animal patients. Clinical service duties will include provision of care for all patients in, or admitted to, the Large Animal Clinic on weeknights and weekends with the assistance of house officers, certified veterinary technicians when available, and clinical year students. Senior faculty support will be available when necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to provide 75-80% (Lecturer or Instructor) clinical service per month and will cover approximately half of the official state holidays when the Veterinary Teaching Hospital is on emergency only status. The clinical schedule will be developed in conjunction with the faculty to accommodate the needs of the candidate and achieve an equitable distribution of work. The faculty will cover the remaining on-call responsibilities for the hospital. Opportunities will be available for the delivery of instruction for professional students on core clinical rotations.
