The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track teaching faculty position in Small Animal Oncology at the level of Assistant Clinical Professor (Nontenure track) at the Veterinary Health Center - Wentzville satellite teaching hospital.  Details about position, MU and Wentzville are posted online at https://hrs.missouri.edu/find-a-job/academic Job # 39178. 

The successful candidate will join an established comprehensive oncology service dedicated to teaching, clinical and basic science research, and the highest quality patient care. As part of this appointment, the successful candidate will: 

  • Participate in a busy and progressive oncology service.
  • Teaching students (professional and graduate students) and house officers in clinical and didactic settings.
  • Scholarly activity. For a non-tenure track individual, this will include collaboration on clinical research projects, authorship of book chapters, reviews, or other activities relating to oncology or education.
  • Participation in NCI Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium (COTC) and Canine Comparative Oncology and Genomics Consortium (CCOGC) activities.  
  • Participate in faculty governance activities as feasible. 

Initial appointment will begin as soon as an acceptable candidate can be identified and hired.

 

The Veterinary Health Center -Wentzville is a progressive clinical practice where there is a culture of collegiality and patient care is top priority.  This University of Missouri satellite facility located in the St. Louis suburb of Wentzville, MO offers specialty care for the St. Louis metropolitan area. Current specialties supported in clinic include Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Dermatology. We work hand-in-hand with our colleagues at our Columbia campus for collaborative case care and research. Veterinary students, interns and residents are offered clinical rotations at the Wentzville location. Technology is utilized to allow attendance and contribution to multiple types of rounds throughout each workweek. This position has the benefits of working within the academic community with all of it support and professional development opportunities while maintaining the efficiency of private practice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Completion of Veterinary Oncology residency program

Candidates will be evaluated on: 

  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a regular or faculty license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Missouri
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain DEA and BNDD certificates. 
  • Board certification (ACVIM, Specialty of Oncology) or completion of residency resulting in eligibility for board certification by ACVIM, Specialty of Oncology by the start date

Candidates will be assessed based upon educational and professional achievement. Clinical experience, communication skills, experience working effectively in diverse environments, and observations shared by referees will all be considered in the selection process. The potential for the candidate to work within the framework of the VHC will also be assessed, as will specialty and/or research training and teaching experience. We are seeking a candidate with interest in practicing up-to-date medicine, a passion for teaching, and a desire for continual professional improvement.
