We seek a strategic leader to foster an inclusive and diverse environment that shapes the future of large animal veterinary medicine. The Head of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech will provide direction in professional veterinary/graduate education, faculty development, teaching, research, and clinical services. An individual with a record of leadership excellence and interest in clinical service, scholarship, and veterinary education will have the opportunity to work with our innovative, dedicated, and passionate faculty. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in teaching, research, or clinical service. Academic rank, tenure, and salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences is one of five academic departments in the College of Veterinary Medicine and incorporates in-hospital medicine and surgery, equine field service, production management medicine and equine podiatry services in Blacksburg, as well as the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Virginia. Department personnel currently include 23 faculty at both locations. Department faculty are engaged in a range of clinical, population-based, and translational research with both intra- and extramural funding. Faculty teach undergraduate, professional and graduate students, as well as train clinical residents and interns. Required Qualifications

DVM or equivalent degree
Experience in one or more of the areas of: clinical service, applied or biomedical scholarship, professional/graduate teaching, and outreach/extension.
Administrative experience, exceptional communication skills, and leadership qualities that facilitate and encourage engagement and faculty development.
Experience and excellence in identifying, recruiting, promoting, developing and retaining a diverse and inclusive team of talent.
A level of productivity that would be equivalent and support appointment at the rank of Associate/Full professor.
Position requires occasional travel to attend conferences and meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced graduate degree
Diplomate of an AVMA recognized specialty college or similar internationally recognized governing body.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or receive approval from the university for a vaccination exemption due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
