The Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department (VBSD) in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) at South Dakota State University (SDSU) invites applications to apply for a 9-month full time, clinical, non-tenure-track position in the new Professional (DVM) Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM).   Candidates will be assigned the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor depending on qualifications.

Successful candidates are expected to teach 90-100 percent within the new PPVM. This program will encompass the first two years of a veterinary curriculum whereby each year a cohort of 20 students will begin the professional curriculum and complete the first two years of Veterinary School at SDSU, and finish their final two years of the DVM degree requirements at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine.

This position would teach lectures and laboratories for the veterinary companion animal (small animal) medicine and/or surgery courses in the first and second years of the veterinary curriculum, along with providing lectures and/or coordinator functions in additional courses within the curriculum, depending on expertise.  Teaching could include lectures and/or coordination of courses within the following topics: food animal medicine and/or surgery, veterinary anatomy, basic clinical skills, clinical and/or anatomic pathology, microscopic anatomy (histology), radiographic anatomy, systemic (integrated) physiology, endocrinology and reproduction, genetics and genomics, biochemistry (cell and molecular biology),  veterinary imaging, veterinary dermatology, professional development, critical scientific reading, veterinary pharmacology and toxicology or closely related disciplines.

This position could also contribute to the research and scholarly mission of the university by providing oversight, advising and mentorship to veterinary students that will be completing their MS Degree at SDSU.

SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. Women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibility for each of these positions is to teach in the Professional DVM degree program in at least two to three areas of expertise and coordinate the course content to achieve the same learning objectives and outcomes as the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine’s first two years’ curriculum.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:

Position is open until filled with full consideration given to applications received by February 16, 2022.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

SDSU accepts applications through an on-line employment site.  To apply, visit:  https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu, search by the position title, view the job announcement, and click on “apply for this job.”  This system will guide you through the electronic application form.  This employment site will also require the attachment of a cover letter, which should specifically address how the candidate meets the qualifications as outlined in the advertisement, Curriculum Vitae, and a reference page with the contact information for three professional references. For questions on the electronic employment process, contact SDSU Human Resources at (605) 688-4128.
