Extension Associate in the Endocrinology Laboratory

Animal Health Diagnostic Center

Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences

College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University

The successful candidate will serve as an Extension Associate in the Endocrinology Laboratory, a section within the Cornell University Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC), located in Ithaca, NY.  The “Endo Lab” is a busy diagnostic laboratory that offers a broad array of endocrinological tests to its diverse clientele of clinical veterinarians. Diagnostic testing for equine metabolic conditions (e.g., pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction [PPID], equine metabolic syndrome [EMS] with insulin dysregulation) account for a large proportion of the lab’s testing volume. Assessments for thyroid function and various reproductive states in companion animals, including horses, are also commonly performed diagnostic tests.

Qualifications: DVM or equivalent degree; a minimum of 1-2 years of post-graduate veterinary clinical experience, including clinical equine experience. The successful applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  A strong interest in veterinary endocrinology is highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be a member of the Endo Lab and AHDC teams and be primarily responsible for reviewing test results and then finalizing them for automated reporting to clients. The Endo Lab Extension Associates provide phone consultations to clients in regard to pre-submission test selection and sample preparation, as well as interpretation of results and recommendations for additional and/or future testing.  As a member of  the Endo Lab team, the Extension Associate will also participate in the preparation of the interpretive statements that are appended to test result forms and the informational/educational materials that are posted to the Endo Lab’s website (https://www.vet.cornell.edu/animal-health-diagnostic-center/laboratories/endocrinology). The newly hired Endo Lab Extension Associate will be joining a dedicated staff of 16 individuals, including one full-time and one part-time extension associates.

How to Apply: Submit a cover letter including a statement of career goals, curriculum vitae, a statement of contributions to inclusion and diversity, and contact information for three references to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/21468.

The search committee will start reviewing applications from qualified individuals no later than April 15, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled.

For more information, please contact Dr. Ned Place, Search Committee Chair and Director of the Endo Lab, at njp27@cornell.edu.
