ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF FOOD ANIMAL MEDICINE
POSITION:
The Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine (WesternU-CVM) invites applications for one clinical or tenure-track faculty position in Food Animal Medicine at the rank of assistant professor. The veterinary medical curriculum at WesternU-CVM is built on evidence-based innovative instructional programs to educate veterinary professionals and advance knowledge to address the contemporary needs of society. The WesternU-CVM has one of the most diverse faculty, staff, and student populations in the USA. WesternU fosters a collaborative environment in the CVM college as well as across the other seven health-related colleges on the same campus. The successful candidate will play an essential role in incorporating Food Animal Medicine into the integrated curriculum, expanding the WesternU-CVM research program within this discipline, and providing content expertise and clinical services. The candidate is expected to incorporate the founding principles of the WesternU-CVM, specifically student-centered learning, reverence for life, and strategic partnerships.
LOCATION:
WesternU-CVM is in Southern California, a region with a stunning landscape and pleasant weather. The college is surrounded by many national parks as well as an abundance of recreational options from the beach to the mountains. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
• Current theoretical knowledge and clinical skills in the field of Food Animal Medicine. Clinical practice experience with food animals is required.
• Organizational skills necessary in prioritizing workload, delegating responsibility when appropriate, and managing course(s) effectively.
• Proven teaching skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff, students at the college and university levels, and with outside contacts, in a timely manner.
• Ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality according to state/federal laws.

Required Qualifications
1. EDUCATION: An earned Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.
2. EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have at least 5 years of food animal clinical experience at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Diplomate status or eligibility for certification examination by an AVMA specialty college or board, or equivalent residency training is preferred. Applicants who have earned a post-DVM graduate degree (MSc or Ph.D.) in Food Animal Medicine are highly encouraged to apply.

Contribute to the training of veterinary students in Food Animal Medicine:
• Provide leadership and/or instruction for Year 3 and 4 clinical activities.
• Participate in the curricular activities for Year 1 and 2 students, including but not limited to content expertise in Food Animal Science, facilitation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL ) activities, clinical skills laboratories, and other ancillary activities as determined in the curriculum development process.

• If tenure track: Develop a self-sustaining research program and participate in the development of post-DVM training programs.

Clinical services, as negotiated and assigned, with the opportunity to develop a clinical program including medical, surgical, and preventive services for food animals, including small ruminants, potbelly pigs, and camelids.
