Veterinary Associates Equine is a rapidly expanding and progressive general and referral practice with a hospital located in Karaka, South Auckland, New Zealand and a satellite practice in Kumeu, West Auckland. Both the Karaka and Kumeu practices are involved in all types of equine pursuits, including sport horses, Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses, stud work, and pleasure horses, providing a tremendous variety of work.
We are looking for a second board-eligible or board-certified equine internist to join our team. The position is designed to offer assistance in the shared care of our medicine caseload and to provide support for all members of the practice. Teaching and mentoring are a large part of the role. We offer a yearlong internship with our interns rotating between the surgery, medicine, and field services. In addition, we provide one and two-week long externship rotations to the Massey veterinary students during their final year.
We are committed to fostering a positive workplace culture with regular team meetings, journal club, Friday happy hours, and regular team-building activities. We pride ourselves on a work environment that is supportive, friendly, and engages a team-approach. Ideally the successful candidate will wish to work in a fun and supportive team environment and welcome joining a practice that provides high-quality veterinary care. In addition, the candidate will have a positive outlook, a good sense of humor, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. We aim to provide world class care to our patients; pride in one’s work and a desire to continue to develop veterinary skills with the latest research and technology are important attributes in a potential candidate.
New Zealand is renowned for the great outdoors, and our local area is no exception. We have incredible beaches, surf, fishing, forest and bush walks, and great local schools. Being on the outskirts of a large city, many restaurants are nearby, and city culture is a short drive away. Many of our staff are involved in equestrian sports, including popular local hunts, show jumping, pony club, racing, and polo. This is a great opportunity to join the dedicated, enthusiastic, happy Vet Associates Equine family and to be part of our growing practice in beautiful New Zealand! https://www.newzealand.com/nz/auckland/
A vehicle is provided, and a competitive salary will be commensurate with experience. In addition, paid licensure, a CE/CPD budget, cell phone package, paid NZVA/NZEVA and ACVIM/ECEIM membership, and paid professional liability are all part of the benefits package. New Zealand offers a publicly-funded national healthcare system and an employer-matched retirement savings plan known as “KiwiSaver.” Four weeks annual leave is also included with additional days in lieu accrued for after-hours work. While the position is open now, the start date is flexible for the right applicant.
Applicants need to be eligible for full veterinary licensure in New Zealand (details available at https://www.vetcouncil.org.nz/Web/Veterinarians/Registration.aspx). To submit an application or to discuss the position in more detail, please contact Felicity Wade by email at felicity@vetassociates.co.nz or by phone at +6492947307. Applications should include a cover letter, a CV, and the names and contact details of three references.
