Instructor or Lecturer in Medical Oncology
Full-time, 100% (12 month basis)

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time academic year Instructor or Lecturer position. In the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Instructors/Lecturers are specialized faculty that have attained the ultimate degree or certification in their area of expertise and are engaged in either primarily classroom instruction or clinical service, including clinical instruction. In this unique position, the successful applicant will be focused on clinical activities related to outstanding client service and patient care while also teaching veterinary students in the topics of Medical Oncology and translational oncology clinical trials.

The ideal candidate would be committed to professional development and advancement within the role, and expected to expand the clinical trial enterprise to accommodate both local and national discovery efforts.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent, and have completed a small animal rotating internship training program. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed residency training in relevant small animal fields of discipline (ECC, SAIM), and ideally with ACVIM Medical Oncology certification and multi-year track record in clinical service and patient management. The successful candidate should provide evidence of his or her aptitude for clinical instruction, patient management, and client and referring veterinarian communications. Evaluation will be based on the individual’s record of clinical expertise, teaching, student interactions, and service accomplishments. At a minimum, the candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to make service contributions to the college, campus, and broader veterinary profession.

Preferred Qualifications: An MS degree and experience in veterinary clinical service, patient management, education and/or outreach.

Duties: This position is a full-time (100%) twelve-month academic year, non-tenure track appointment in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. The successful candidate will work with a team of investigators including Director of Clinical Trials Center, Clinical Oncology Trials Program Coordinator, and Clinical Oncology Trials intern. The primary teaching responsibility will be in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Small Animal Specialty section; including the Clinical Oncology Trials service, as well as Oncology services under the umbrellas of Medical, Radiation, and Surgical Oncology areas where the successful candidate will provide educational opportunities for 4th year students and house officers through the supervision of medical oncology and/or clinical oncology trial cases and daily rounds. Responsibilities include, and are not limited to, providing clinical service, supervision of the Medical Oncology services, and coordinating the expansion of a Clinical Oncology Trials Center with an envisioned community outreach and educational program to serve the immediate and surrounding communities. Additional responsibilities may include coordinating didactic and patient rounds, providing supervision and care for medical oncology patients involved in investigational therapies, and participating in objective structured clinical examinations.
