Clinical Faculty Position in Medical Oncology

The Department of Clinical Sciences at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is seeking an associate clinical professor of medical oncology to join our oncology team. This is a continuous term (tenure equivalent) track position, with an emphasis on excellence in clinical medical oncology. This position focuses on clinical activity and clinical teaching within the Foster Hospital for Small Animals. We seek an enthusiastic, team-oriented clinician who will provide outstanding patient care, client care, and service to our referring veterinarians. A commitment to student learning and house officer training is expected. Clinical faculty are expected to engage in sufficient scholarly activity to remain current in the discipline and to assist with on-going clinical trials. This position will include 32-34 weeks of assigned clinical time, with an additional 13-15 weeks available for off-clinic teaching, scholarly activity, and service.

The Harrington Oncology Program at Cummings School has a robust clinical caseload, excellent student teaching and house officer training programs, and is active in clinical trials and other research and scholarly activity. The successful candidate will join an existing team of four medical oncologists who are diplomates of the ACVIM (Medical Oncology) and a radiation therapist in the Foster Small Animal Hospital.  The Harrington Oncology Program is located in a dedicated wing of the FHSA with an integrated service space including a USP-800 compliant chemotherapy hood and treatment area, a separate kennel room, a rounds room, and a central EMR space. The service has an Onkodisruptor electrochemotherapy unit along with dedicated anesthesia equipment. Available state-of-the-art equipment includes a Varian iX™ linear accelerator with RapidArc™ technology, a 120 leaf Millennium™ multileaf collimator, and on-board imaging, including cone beam CT, Mosaiq Record & Verify™ system, and Varian Eclipse™ treatment planning system. As part of the Clinical Research Shared Resource, the Clinical Trials Office broadly coordinates clinical studies and trials, including evaluations of therapies, medical devices, and diagnostic tests.

Clinical professor track faculty members are expected to engage in sufficient research, scholarly, and professional development activity to ensure they remain at the forefront of their discipline. Excellent opportunities exist to build clinical and translational research collaborations with researchers on all three campuses of Tufts University, within the New England medical community, and beyond.

Qualifications: Must hold a DVM or equivalent degree.  Completion of a residency program in small animal medical oncology approved by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine by the effective date of appointment is required. Board certification is required at, or no later than two years following the date of hire. Demonstrated ability to multi-task in an academic environment and manage a robust caseload is expected.  Enthusiasm for, and demonstrated ability, in teaching is required. The candidate should also possess effective communication skills, have demonstrated ability to work in a team, and be committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive community.

Application Procedure: The review of applications will begin on January 23rd, 2023, and continue until a suitable candidate is found.  Start date is negotiable, but a start date prior to August, 2023 is preferred.  Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, along with a cover letter describing their qualifications, teaching experience, clinical/diagnostic experience, research and scholarly interests, and interest in the position. Please address your strengths and experiences in diversity and inclusion as it relates to teaching, research, and/or service in your cover letter. Please provide the names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of three references.  Application materials should be submitted electronically through Interfolio (https://apply.interfolio.com/119088).
