Job Summary:  

The Clinical Consultation Specialist is responsible for providing specialty consultation services and educational guidance in a collaborative approach to our practicing veterinarians.  These services will be provided in the way of phone consultations, digital consultations and video consultations to our practicing veterinarians and video consultations with our clients.  The Clinical Consultation Specialist will work closely with the Vice President of Medical Excellence to fulfill the vision of providing excellent medical specialty support and training to our practicing veterinarians through the delivery of RACE approved continuing education and content, the development of relevant continuing education events, wet labs and development of Centers of Excellence in their unique area of expertise.  The ideal candidate will have proficient clinical skills in their area of expertise as well as excellent communication and organization skills and a strong passion for training and development of veterinarians. 

Travel required: Less than 25%

Essential Functions:

  • Provide case consultation to our clinical veterinarians through phone and digital platforms Provide clear and concise written reports in a timely manner to our clinical veterinarians detailing any and all recommendations Drive financial growth of our clinics through the delivery of new services and treatments not currently available in the general practice setting Provide case management guidance in a manner that empowers our clinical veterinarians to care and manage their patients more thoroughly at the local level Educate our clinical veterinarians in areas of medical opportunity to encourage skillset growth and development Identify key areas of opportunity for providing company wide continuing education training to our clinical veterinarians Help develop, implement and support Centers of Excellence pertaining to the unique area of expertise Identify, develop and deliver ancillary services pertaining to the unique area of expertise

Additional Functions:

  • Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MVP. Develop, host and participate in a minimum of 2 RACE approved wet lab opportunities annually for doctors and/or technicians Develop and host a minimum of 4 live RACE approved continuing educational opportunities for our clinical veterinarians annually Develop and host a minimum of 2 live RACE approved continuing educational opportunities for our credentialed technical staff annually Contribute a minimum of 2 articles quarterly for the MVP on the Fly publication Participate in a minimum of 2 one hour MVP on the Fly podcast segments Identify and message best practices and standards of care pertaining to the unique area of expertise Collaborate with other specialist within and outside of the organization as needed to provide accurate and comprehensive case advice Travel to clinics and home office as needed for the delivery of educational content and training Mentor veterinarians with an interest in the unique area of expertise

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior people, problem-solving, decision making, and change management skills. Proven ability to get things done in a timely and efficient manner. Ability to develop strong and supportive working relationships with a wide variety of people and backgrounds. Extensive knowledge, training and experience in the key area of expertise Ability to influence others in understanding and meeting veterinary best practices and standards of care Exhibit a collaborative approach to veterinary medicine

Required Education and Experience:

  • DVM or equivalent licensure from an AVMA accredited institution
  • Residency training from a recognized and respected educational or private practice institution
  • Board certification in the unique area of expertise
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in specialty practice
  • Experience with developing and delivering educational training to veterinarians and technicians

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
