The Department of Large Animal Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Georgia invites applications for a residency/fellowship in large animal emergency and critical care, start date flexible between July 15-August 1, 2023. To be considered for the residency position, candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree; have 4 years post-DVM clinical experience with preference for significant experience in clinical, laboratory and didactic teaching of veterinary students including the completion of an equine or large animal surgery or medicine residency approved by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or Internal Medicine, respectively.   If during the first year of the residency, the applicant becomes a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or Internal Medicine, the program will be converted to a fellowship.  To be considered for the fellowship position, candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree; have a minimum of 4 years post-DVM clinical experience with preference for significant experience in in clinical, laboratory and didactic teaching of veterinary students; and be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons—Large Animal or Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine—Large Animal.  Strong preference will be given to individuals with significant experience and comfort with diagnosis and treatment of emergency diseases.  The successful candidate will have a valid license (regular Georgia or faculty) to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Georgia or be willing to obtain and maintain a valid license (regular Georgia or faculty) to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Georgia.

The University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine is an American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care approved residency training facility for large animal resident (3 year) and fellowship (2 years) programs.  During this training program, the primary responsibilities of this position are divided between providing care for animals presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and teaching veterinary students, interns, and residents involved with the cases. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a small amount of classroom and laboratory teaching of veterinary students. They will also be required to participate in scholarly activity and expected to complete at least one original manuscript during the program. The teaching and service activities of the emergency services in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital are supported by 3 emergency critical care clinicians (also diplomates of the ACVS), 4 surgery clinicians, and 5 internal medicine clinicians.

Salary for resident $55,000.  Salary for fellow $65,000. The position will start between July 15-August 1, 2023.
