The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University invites applications for a faculty position in Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care. Depending upon the qualifications and experience of the applicant, the position will be a tenure track or multi-year renewable health programs clinical appointment available at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level.  
 
The successful candidate will be joining a team of 5 ACVS and 4 ACVIM faculty that are also board certified in ACVECC (2) as well as a full complement of boarded specialists in ACVSMR (2), ACVR, ACVAA, ACVO, and ACVIM-cardiology.  Clinical facilities include a fully equipped hospital with 24-hour certified nursing staff, advanced imaging, the Matilda Wilson Pegasus Critical Care and Isolation Facility and the McPhail Equine Performance Center fully equipped for advanced sports medicine McPhail Equine Performance Center | College of Veterinary Medicine at MSU. The position offers exciting opportunities to work in a collaborative environment using state of the art facilities and equipment. Facilities include three surgical suites fully equipped with high-definition arthroscopy, endoscopy, laparoscopy, ligasure™, and a full complement of orthopedic instrumentation (LCP and DCP plates). In addition, state of the art imaging (including CT, MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, ultrasound, digital radiography, and fluoroscopy) is available. The College of Veterinary Medicine has implemented a new exciting interactive evidence-based curriculum.
 
The hospital caseload is predominantly equine (approximately 85%), but includes all other large animal species (15%). A substantial proportion of after-hours emergency coverage is envisioned for this position (a minimum of 40% of the position responsibility). Primary responsibilities include: 1) sharing primary duties for after-hours emergency cases; 2) some elective daytime duty including both equine and food animal cases; 3) developing strong relationships with referring veterinarians; 4) providing evidence-based teaching, laboratory and clinical instruction to veterinary students and residents; 5) establishing an externally funded research program or developing collaborations with faculty having established research programs; 6) participating in state and national outreach and continuing education.

Required qualifications include DVM or equivalent degree, board certification or eligibility for Diplomate status in either the American College of Veterinary Surgeons/European College of Veterinary Surgeons, or the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine/European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and competency in equine emergency care. Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, experience with emergency and critical care, and a MS or PhD are highly desirable. An opportunity exists for a motivated candidate to participate in a concurrent fellowship in Equine Emergency and Critical Care Medicine.
 
The successful applicant will have proficiency in emergency care as this is an essential component of the position. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with other faculty members, residents and staff. It is also desirable for the candidate to have demonstrated enthusiasm for research as well as educating the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary specialists.
