The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks to fill a full-time continuous career track (clinical track) faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine. The successful applicant will join three other ACVIM board-certified internists, and a dedicated team of residents and technicians. The Department is open to flexible scheduling and novel appointment structures. Salary range is $145,000 - $190,000 per year, depending on qualifications and level of experience and includes a generous benefits package.

The small animal internal medicine service located within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in Pullman, Washington, is currently comprised of three boarded internists and five residents. Staff in support of the service include a licensed veterinary technician, veterinary assistants, and a patient service coordinator. Students are actively involved in all cases. The service offers comprehensive care working closely with other services, in particular surgery, neurology, cardiology, oncology, and emergency/critical care, to meet patient needs. For imaging, our radiology service has a 64-slice computed tomographic scanner, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography, plain radiography, fluoroscopy, and nuclear scanning. The small animal internal medicine service has endoscopic capabilities to perform respiratory, gastrointestinal and urological endoscopic examinations. The service also has access to a Phillips mobile videofluoroscopic unit for dynamic contrast studies. The medicine service sees patients from all over the Pacific northwest, Alaska and western Canada and the case load continues to increase with a current average case load of 1200-1400 cases per year. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will emphasize clinical service and clinical teaching, with up to 65% effort devoted to these activities. The successful candidate will provide clinical service for the VTH and clinical instruction of professional veterinary students, interns, residents, and graduate students. Remaining effort will comprise classroom/laboratory teaching and/or collaborative research/scholarship within the candidate’s area of interest. The successful applicant should be able to effectively communicate and work collegially and collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment and relevant ability to successfully advocate for diversity and values of diversity and inclusion.


Required for both ranks:

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) degree or foreign equivalent degree (i.e., BVSc). Diplomate status or board-eligibility in Small Animal Internal Medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, by the time of hire.


  • Interest and expertise in practicing all aspects of internal medicine. Interest and expertise in performing abdominal ultrasound (training can be provided).  

Applicants for Associate Professor should also have a record of scholarship aligned with effort devoted to scholarship in previous positions, a higher level of national/international recognition and a higher level of clinical and teaching experience as compared to Assistant Professor applicants.
