Job Details

St. Matthew’s University, School of Veterinary Medicine in the Cayman Islands is looking for a full-time faculty member who is passionate about teaching Food Animal Medicine. The ideal candidate possesses a DVM/VMD/BVSc, and preferably is residency trained or board certified in Large Animal Internal Medicine.

The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate and teach the Food Animal Medicine course and participate in laboratories.  Involvement in the clinical skills courses will also be expected. In addition, all faculty members are expected to participate in faculty committee, school governance, and hold office hours for student mentoring.

Ideal start date is May, 2024, the beginning of our summer semester.

Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with a candidate’s qualifications and experience. Salaries are not subject to income tax in the Cayman Islands.  Pension, CE funding, relocation reimbursement assistance, and health benefits are provided.  Vacation time occurs between semesters, providing faculty with at least 7 weeks off per year.

The main emphasis at St. Matthew’s is education, and our faculties spend most of their time teaching, mentoring, and advising students. We offer small class size, a safe and beautiful environment, and an excellent group of colleagues for you to work with. Students spend the first seven semesters on Grand Cayman and complete their final year of clinical rotations at one of our affiliate schools in the United States or Canada. The School of Veterinary Medicine at St. Matthew’s University uses the trimester system.

The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory and offer a first-world lifestyle. Grand Cayman is only a one-hour plane ride to Miami.  Grand Cayman is one of the top financial centres in the world, and those who live here have access to first class resorts and many of the best restaurants in the Caribbean. Living on and visiting Grand Cayman means you can experience year-long warm weather, the best beach in the world, and experience incredible snorkelling and diving opportunities.
