Come Grow With Us

General Overview:

Seaside Veterinary Cardiac Imaging is currently a mobile service that provides echocardiograms that are performed by our registered cardiac sonographers through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) for ordering primary veterinarians with the aide of remote contracted veterinary cardiologists. We are in the process of expanding our business to include a brick and mortar location in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia as a cardiology specialty hospital. We are ideally looking for an in-person, full-time veterinary cardiologist with an interest in interventional cardiology to help us bring to life the hospital and the interventional unit. We would also consider a remote veterinary cardiologist as well to offer tele-cardiology services to the community.  The bonus of growing with us is that you can help plan the vision and design of the hospital and its services. The conversation of a buy-in for the in-person veterinary cardiologist is also a possibility down the road.

Today, Hampton Roads is greatly known for being the birthplace of Colonial America and is also home to Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement, and Colonial Williamsburg, the country's largest living history museum. You’ll enjoy the 35 miles worth of beaches, many rivers, and numerous attractions such as Busch Gardens amusement park. Hampton Roads, Virginia has a “goldilocks climate”, not too hot and not too cold, just right!

Job Description: (Prefer in-person cardiologist to help grow interventional service; will consider a remote cardiologist as well)

  • Full time, remote veterinary cardiologist:

The way an appointment would flow: The tech would get the history, vitals, BP, perform a physical exam, digital retinal imaging, digital stethoscope auscultation with recorded lung/heart sounds and enter that information into the medical record. We would then call the cardiologist to let them know that the record is ready and we would review it with them. Once ready, we would go back to the exam room, conference call the cardiologist with the owners, the cardiologist would ask any additional history questions, and discuss what diagnostics they wanted to run. The staff would go over the estimate and perform the diagnostics. We would be able to offer echo, BP, ECG, radiographs, and holter monitors. Once all the tests are done, they would be uploaded to the record for the cardiologist to review. In regards to echo, we also will have a "Live scan" software. This will allow the cardiologist  to view the scan from a remote computer as the sonographer is performing the study. The cardiologist can do real time messaging with the tech on the echo machine, allowing the doctor to communicate any additional images they would like, to focus on areas of interest, or to add measurements. I also will have an A.I. scribe system that will listen to the appointment and conversations between you and the owners and will automatically write everything in a SOAP format that you can tweak to your liking. Once the cardiologist has reviewed the diagnostics, they will review the results and treatment recommendations with the owners via conference call. We will have access to in-house medications but also have the ability to write scripts. Since this would be an outpatient facility, hospitalization would not be possible; however, we would have the ability to transfer patients to local ER's for immediate care. That being said, we would have what is needed to stabilize them for transfer, including supplies needed for thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, and abdominocentesis. Having two registered cardiac sonographers on staff will allow one sonographer and cardiologist to focus on appointments for symptomatic patients and the other sonographer would handle referral drop off appointments for asymptomatic/pre-op clearance echos. The cardiologist would review the drop-off referral patient’s record and images at a later time, write the report, and send it back to the ordering veterinarian to manage the patient's care.

  • Full time, In-person veterinary cardiologist:

This option would function as a normal cardiology clinic. It would also still function where the doctor handles symptomatic patients while a sonographer handles referral asymptomatic/pre-op clearance echos that can be interpreted and sent back to the ordering primary veterinarian at a later time. This option also allows us to build out our interventional unit (Goal is to be able to do Heart worm pulls, PDA closures, and pacemaker implantation to start with).

  • Legal note: A valid VCPR can be established in Virginia via video conference call with a corresponding Virginia License to practice Vet Med. LVTs are able to perform physical exams as long as they describe body systems and don’t just put “normal”. LVTs operate under the supervision of a DVM in Virginia and having direct access to a DVM via phone, text, or video call counts as supervision in Virginia. Thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis, and pericardiocentesis are all procedures that an LVT can perform in Virginia.  I’m happy to go over any other questions you might have.
