St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in the Cayman Islands is seeking a full-time faculty member in Small Animal Medicine. Primarily a teaching position, the successful candidate will serve as course coordinator and primary instructor for two five credit-hour courses in small animal medicine (Small Animal Medicine 1 and II). These courses are structured in a body-systems format and delivered to third year students in our professional veterinary medicine program. Contributions in the small animal clinical skills program are expected where appropriate, as well as committee work, student mentoring, and community involvement.
Preference is afforded veterinarians with residency training and diplomate status with the ACVIM in small animal medicine, and demonstrable experience as a clinical educator. Board eligible candidates with appropriate training with be considered. Experienced clinical educators in related clinical disciplines may also be considered.
Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with a candidate’s qualifications and experience. Pension, CE funding, and health benefits are provided. Vacation time occurs between semesters, providing faculty with at least 7 weeks off per year.
The main emphasis at St. Matthew’s is preclinical education. Students spend seven terms (trimesters) on Grand Cayman in the preclinical course work, and complete their final year of clinical rotations at one of our affiliate schools in the United States and Canada. Our faculty members spend most of their time teaching, mentoring, and advising students. Relationships with the Department of Agriculture, Cayman Islands Veterinary Medical Association, local small animal clinics, and the Humane Society provide opportunities for collaboration, consultation, and outreach. Opportunities for research, scholarly pursuit, and professional development are encouraged but not expected.
We are looking for a clinical educator who is passionate about teaching. We offer small class sizes where you will know your students by name, a small faculty and collegial atmosphere, and a vibrant community with excellent schools. The Cayman Islands offers a tropical first-world lifestyle just short plane ride from the US mainland. Living on Grand Cayman means you can experience year-long warm weather, the best beach in the world, incredible water sports, and unique cultural experiences.
