The Internal Medicine Licensed Veterinary Technician plays an important role in the success of the service. This individual is expected to successfully coordinate receiving and workup of incoming cases from the first point of contact to discharge for the Internal Medicine Service.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Organize and assist with all technical aspects of patient care/procedures needed to perform exemplary patient care and handling

Assist with patient scheduling and complete all nursing care and procedures patients need using auxiliary services throughout CUHA.

Assist and process blood and urine collection, Internal Medicine diagnostic tests, staining of cytology samples, request requisition and transport of clin path and DL samples to the central collection points.

Manage Internal Medicine client email and phone calls/messages, deliver to the appropriate clinician, and answer routine questions appropriately and professionally.

As part of an academic teaching hospital, the licensed veterinarian technician will work with faculty/staff to implement clinical investigations, including data collection and collaboration with other service clinicians/staff on clinical studies conducted within the CUHA.
Employees working with animals must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications

Associates degree in Veterinary Technology, NYS licensure or eligible to be licensed required, with minimum 1 year of LVT experience or equivalent combination of experience and education

Meet the physical demands of the position, which include prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to develop excellent working relationships including communicating with staff, students, technicians, veterinarians and clients in a professional manner.

Able to work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks with competing deadlines, while paying close attention to details;
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous private practice and/or Internal Medicine experience.

Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Important Details about the Position

This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
-
We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.

Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. Schedule will require/include weekend, holiday and night shifts, as well as weekend day shifts. Cross-training with other services to support business continuity will be expected as time/business need allows. If business needs change, a position/individual may be realigned within the CUHA to a different shift or service.
