Combined ACVIM Large Animal Internal Medicine residency program and Doctor Veterinary Sciences (DVSc) degree in Large Animal Internal Medicine – Department of Clinical Studies

The Doctor of Veterinary Science (DVSc) degree in large animal internal medicine was developed to fulfill 2 objectives: 1) applied clinical training & experience that meets or exceeds the residency requirements of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine & 2) training & experience in clinical research. It is an interdepartmental graduate degree program that receives strong faculty commitment from all areas within Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). The DVSc program provides rigorous advanced academic preparation in both discipline training and research and is a unique post-professional doctoral level degree. The applicant should have a strong commitment to clinical research in Large Animal Internal Medicine and will be enrolled in both full-time graduate studies in the Department of Clinical Studies at the University of Guelph and the ACVIM approved residency training program in large animal internal medicine in the OVC Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC). The DVSc residency/graduate-degree program in large animal internal medicine lasts 3 years (12 semesters). The program combines clinical training, applied clinical research and didactic coursework, culminating in the defense of a written thesis.
The Large Animal Hospital of the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre (OVC HSC) is a large referral center located in Southern Ontario. The caseload consists of approximately 90% horses & 10% other species (bovine, swine, caprine, etc).
