POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an outstanding veterinary nutritionist with training and experience in clinical nutrition for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) to join our faculty in the Department of Molecular Biosciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM), UC Davis. Our department is a highly integrated group of faculty studying physiological processes and their modulation by nutrition, mutations, drugs, and xenobiotics and their application to improve animal and human health. The candidate will have advanced training in clinical nutrition, and the position will involve a 50% clinical commitment to the Nutrition Service at the VMTH. The candidate will have the potential to develop an active research program investigating the molecular, cellular, physiological, or pathophysiological mechanisms by which diets or nutrients influence health and disease. We welcome research that diversifies our expertise and/or complements existing strengths in nutrition, physiological chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum - Candidates must possess a DVM with advanced training in clinical nutrition. Board certification in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM - Nutrition) or European College of Veterinary Comparative Nutrition (ECVCN), or completion of an ACVIM (Nutrition) or ECVCN-approved residency program plus credentials approval is required. Clinical experience and competence in nutritional management of complex cases and homemade diet formulation is expected. Candidates should have a PhD or advanced research training and experience. A documented research record and the potential to develop a research program in nutrition is required. Aptitude/experience in teaching nutrition to professional or graduate students is required. The candidate is required to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse community. Candidates are expected to have experience with, or strong potential for, accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The candidate must be eligible for veterinary medical licensing in the State of California (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857). Individuals must obtain a full CA license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846) or a University license (California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1) prior to beginning clinical duties.

Preferred - Experience with grant writing and acquisition of extramural funding is desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Creative Work: The development of a creative, focused, productive basic and/or clinically oriented research program in nutrition is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals and acquisition of extramural funding. This individual will provide leadership in directing nutrition research projects of residents, graduate students, and/or professional students within the school and across campus.

Clinical: This position includes a 50% clinical effort assignment to the Nutrition service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and house officers, providing nutrition recommendations/management for patients, and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

Teaching: Candidates are expected to actively participate in the teaching mission of the School of Veterinary Medicine. The candidate will be expected to teach lectures, laboratories, and other teaching activities in the DVM professional curriculum, graduate clinical (resident) training program, graduate education and mentoring (PhD, MS), and/or department-driven undergraduate courses on campus.

Professional Competence: Will advance the discipline of nutrition within the SVM, as well as locally and nationally, through participation and leadership in this field. Expected to establish a reputation for research and clinical excellence locally, regionally, and nationally.
