Locum Opportunity – Small Animal Internal Medicine

The Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), is seeking Small Animal Internal Medicine Locum coverage for the following weeks:

  • January 20th, 2025 February 3rd, 2025 March 3rd, 2025 March 17th, 2025 March 31st, 2025

Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario, and should be a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM-SAM) or eligible for the ACVIM certification examination.

 

The OVC HSC Small Animal Medicine section provides service to the Small Animal Hospitals, currently staffed with rotations of 4 boarded faculty, 4 medicine residents, 2 rotating interns, 2 medicine technicians, and a dedicated medicine client liaison. The service supervising 6-8 final year undergraduate veterinary students per week. Integrated into the service team concept are medical specialists in neurology, ophthalmology, oncology, nutrition, cardiology, anesthesia, surgery, emergency and critical care, and diagnostic imaging services.

 

Within the service team concept, the locum will be expected to provide clinical coverage within the Small Animal Hospital for the week (either on the inpatient or outpatient service), some remunerated-on call responsibilities may be required. Teaching duties include case rounds with assigned service (residents, intern, students), overseeing case management of patients (residents and interns provide primary care), and assisting residents or interns with procedures as needed.
