Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Veterinary Medical Oncology, Tenure or Clinical Track, and Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Radiation Oncology
Louisiana State University invites applications for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Veterinary Medical Oncology, Tenure or Clinical Track, and an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Radiation Oncology. The LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital has open positions for full-time Medical Oncology clinicians and Radiation Oncology clinicians to round out their rapidly expanding Oncology service. Medical and Radiation Oncology provides services for all species in the Oncology service area of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the School of Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidates will participate in the training of oncology residents, interns, veterinary students, and visiting interns and residents within the oncology section. They will participate in scholarly activities and activities within the Veterinary Clinical Sciences department and oncology section.
The department has a busy and growing combined clinical service that allows for comprehensive patient care supported by a diagnostic imaging service with a new CT scanner, clinical pathology, anatomic pathology, five anesthesiologists, and a full complement of other specialty services. Their Varian Trilogy linear accelerator with cone beam CT OBI is capable of RapidArc, SRT, IMRT, 3D conformal, and electron radiation treatments. They also have a dedicated chemotherapy suite, compliant with USP 800 standards.
In addition, they are rapidly building up a clinical trials program and have clinical and laboratory support staff equipped to facilitate additional clinical trials. LSU Vet Med also recently established a Comprehensive Cancer Center and received $11 million in COBRE funding for pre-clinical cancer models.
Clinical Track Position Requirements
The successful candidates will provide clinical expertise and deliver services in the oncology section for all species. This position requires the faculty members to oversee the oncology service on a rotating basis. This involves instructing students and interns/residents, supervising technologists, and having primary responsibility for case management. The faculty members will have both primary case responsibilities and will oversee cases seen by interns/residents in oncology. In addition, these positions will be responsible as part of team teaching of didactic lectures in the classroom.
Tenure Track Position Requirements
The successful candidates will provide clinical expertise and deliver medical or radiation oncology services in the oncology section for all species. These positions require the faculty member to oversee the oncology service on a rotating basis. This involves the instruction of students and interns/residents, supervising technologists, and having primary responsibility for case management. The faculty members will have both primary case responsibilities and will oversee cases seen by interns/residents in oncology. In addition, these positions will be responsible as part of team teaching of didactic lectures in the classroom.
Additionally, they will provide research, both primary and collaborative research and scholarly activity in areas related to oncology. Oncology areas could include but are not limited to clinical trials, basic research, and research in teaching techniques and assessment.
They will also provide input in the governance and service to LSU, by serving on committees within the VCS department, School of Veterinary Medicine, and LSU campus as the needs arise.
Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent and must have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) & must be eligible for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology)
Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent with 5 years of related research/teaching/clinical experience and must have board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology)
Professor: DVM or equivalent with 8 years of related research/teaching/clinical experience and must have board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology)
Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):
Per PS 18- These positions are a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
Required to be capable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), kneel or sit on the floor, push/pulling, grasping, climbing, sitting, crawling, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
*Due to the nature of these positions and/or responsibilities, these positions is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67*
