The Department of Large Animal Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia, is seeking candidates for a clinical-track or tenure-track faculty position in large animal internal medicine at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The caseload is approximately 80% equine, with the remainder being primarily small ruminants, companion pigs, New World camelids, and cattle. The medicine service is currently supported by five other internists, four medicine residents, and four rotating interns shared with other hospital services. In addition to the members of the medicine service, there are four surgeons, three emergency criticalists (also boarded in surgery), and two anesthesiologists in the Large Animal In-house Section. The service is also supported by members of the Field Services Section with interest and certifications in dentistry, surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation, theriogenology, and production medicine.
Major Responsibilities
Faculty assignment will be based on the interests of the candidate in conjunction with the missions of the unit.
Clinical Instruction and Service: The successful candidate will join 5 large animal internists in the oversight of case management, client service, and student, intern, and resident training on the internal medicine services. Tenure track faculty would be expected to spend closer to 50% of their time on clinics.
Didactic Instruction: Instruction of didactic and laboratory courses in areas relevant to large animal medicine will be shared with the other 5 large animal internal medicine specialists. Time spent on this type of instruction will be commensurate with their allocation of effort.
Other Service: Active participation in Departmental, College, University and/or extramural committees, development of continuing education programs, and contributions to reference texts and articles for veterinarians and the public are examples of expected other service.
Research: The successful applicant is expected to participate in scholarly activities leading to publications. Clinical track faculty scholarly activity is most often related to the clinical service and teaching missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Establishing an independent research program is not expected for applicants in a clinical track position, though collaboration with colleagues within the department, and in other departments and colleges on campus, is encouraged. Tenure track faculty have a higher allocation of effort to research. As a result, they are expected to develop an independent research program, seek intra and extra-mural funding, and produce peer-reviewed publication at a rate commensurate with allocation of effort. Collaborations with colleagues within the University and externally are also encouraged.

The successful candidate will have a valid license (regular Georgia or faculty) to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Georgia or be willing to obtain and maintain a valid license (regular Georgia or faculty) to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Georgia.
